Sgt. John Shields is the administrative sergeant for the La Quinta Police Department. In this position, he handles the administrative duties for the La Quinta Police department. He also supervises the Traffic team and School Resource Officers. Sgt. Shields is a 15-year veteran of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Sgt. Shields is a graduate of the University of California at Riverside with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics.

Sgt. Shields has a law enforcement background in corrections, uniform patrol, traffic enforcement, traffic collision reconstruction, and homicide investigations prior to his promotion to Sergeant in September 2002. After his promotion to the rank of Sergeant, he was assigned to patrol operations at the Indio Station serving the Cities of La Quinta, Coachella and the unincorporated county areas in the Coachella Valley.

Sgt. Shields is married and has four children ranging in age from 8 to 16 years. He has lived in California his whole life and currently resides in Cherry Valley.
