Crime Prevention
On January 8, 2003, the La Quinta Police Department dedicated its Community Policing Office (CPO) on Avenida Bermudas. Since then, the number of deputies based out of that building has increased and the public's response has been greater than expected. Currently the CPO averages approx. 150-200 citizen visitors each month.
The next phase of the La Quinta Police Department's community oriented policy strategy has been implemented and the Crime Prevention Program has been expanded. Today there are four deputies assigned to the Special Enforcement Team. Part of their duties is to conduct crime prevention education programs and to develop programs to address specific problems facing residents within the city. Each deputy has been assigned to an area of the city that is unique either by community composition or geography. The four designated areas for La Quinta are: Northern, Central, Cove, and Southern. Listed below is listed the names of the deputies assigned to each area and the definition of that Community Policing District.
As part of their Crime Prevention efforts, each deputy will be contacting homeowner associations, business owners, homeowners, and other community groups currently organized within these areas. Each deputy will provide crime prevention information and suggestions to reduce the chance of a crime being committed. Each deputy will also be available to receive information regarding issues that concern the residents or businesspersons and develop programs to address and hopefully resolve those concerns.
As with all community-orientated programs, a good working relationship with those who live and work in these areas is essential for success. Please feel free to call or stop by the Community Policing Office at 51351 Avenida Bermudas to meet with the deputy working in your area. The phone number is 771-3220.
